Music is the best thing ever.
Since the DM show two weeks ago, I’ve really been feeling the joy in music again (I’ve also been pretty obsessively listening to Depeche Mode. Mostly Ultra). Not that it ever really truly diminished, I think it’s just that I’ve had a hard time the past couple of years really feeling the joy in much of anything that wasn’t a stiff drink or sleep.
So I’ve been eager to see more shows. There are a couple coming up that I’m hoping to attend/already bought tickets for/want to buy tickets for/good god i’m fucking broke right now.
The first up is Emilie Autumn. Really, you should check her out. The woman is a classically trained, child-prodigy violinist. As if that wasn’t enough to make me fall head over heels in love with her (because I kinda think the violin is the most beautiful sounding and fascinating instrument on the face of the earth), she’s also got the awesomest pink hair ever and puts on what I understand is a thing to behold of a show (I read it described as a combination of a concert, a Broadway musical and a burlesque act). Also, her band? The Bloody Crumpets. Her albums feature copious amounts of harpsichord music–the harpsichord would be another of my favorite instruments (and one of those things that makes me wonder sometimes if I wasn’t really born in the wrong era. Who plays the damned harpsichord these days? Who even knows what one is?) I adore her fashion style, it’s a kind of Bubblegum-Goth Victorian. I would dress like that, could I but afford it.
I’m ridiculously excited to be seeing her. Hell, I bought the VIP ticket for myself, so I could do the meet and greet beforehand and get a signed copy of her upcoming Asylum book. I just wish I had the proper kit to wear to the show. I need bloomers, striped knee socks, and a corset. who can help me with that?
Anyway, I highly recommend you check her out. She describes her music as Victoriandustrial, but I feel like she really appeals to a far wider audience than just those who like the goth music. Or maybe not.
I just found out that Kings of Leon (“and now for something completely different”) are playing at Merriweather on 8 September this year. Who wants to go with me? Because I really want to go. It’s a Tuesday, unfortunately. BUT, I really want to go. I’ve been really enjoying the hell out of their new album. Tickets are about forty dollars for lawn.
THEN I remembered: Eddie Izzard is doing a show in January. In NYC. At Madison Square Garden. And there are still tickets available for that as well.
Where the hell am I going to come up with the money to see all of these wonderful shows? I do not know. But I have every intention of doing so.
I’ve a review to write for this week: Regina Spektor’s new album. I’ll probably pimp that when it’s posted as well.
I’ve been finding lots of new music lately. I love it.
